Not So Simple B&W

Shorts ℅ | Top ℅ | Clutch | Heels (similar style) | Necklace (similar style) | Cuff ℅ | Earrings (similar style) | Sunglasses

Since I was in New York recently, I've been on a streak of wearing denim, black, leather jackets, and jumpsuits. Well, that didn't last long! I had to trade in my cool weather clothes for something more appropriate for my climate - shorts! When you live in Texas, shorts are a year-round staple. Fall is in the air, but it is still hot here in Houston. I swear, we don't see the leaves change until January!

I don't wear shorts often on the blog (I think I can count ten times), because I don't feel that confident in them. I don't know what it is about them, or where they fall on my thigh, but I would much prefer a dress. However, this ruffled stripe top and cinched waist black shorts are a fun change from the norm for me.

The cinched waist is complimentary, and I always love a good stripe shirt, especially when it's topped off with gingham sleeves. Also, I love adding a bold pop of color to a monochromatic outfit, so the geometric print clutch, and taxi cab yellow necklace were a great addition! Did I mention that my shirt and shorts are under $15? Sizes run small FYI, so I am wearing a medium in both!

An Updated Look at My Home Office

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

I am so excited to share with you today my updated home office! I first showed you my office shortly after we moved into our new house last year (you can see the post here), and have subsequently posted tons of shots on my social media, but haven't done another feature on the blog.

If you recall, I had brainstormed for a while what I wanted this space to look like, and literally hit the ground running and had ordered, set up, installed and situated everything within a few weeks of moving in. It was the first room completed in the house, and of course, still remains my favorite room. The whole house is very 'us,' but this space is my own, and has evolved into an oasis that I love more and more everyday. As you can tell, Safari loves it too. I mean, after all, she is my assistant!

My pink wall is the focal point of the room, but I didn't want it to look babyish. I've tried straying away from other pastel tones, and instead have focused on gold, white, and mirrored accents. Decorating your home is a lot like choosing what you wear each day. Not only do you want it to reflect your mood and make you feel great, but you also want it to transition with the season. I'm not talking about starting from scratch and buying all new things, but a few updates here and there.

For example, I recently got this white and gold shag rug from Dazzling Decor, an interior design store here in Houston. I topped it off with this desk chair that accents the rug perfectly. I also added a this print from Minted, that brings in the pink from my wall, and lends a more modern feel to the room with it's geometric shapes. By adding key feminine, chic pieces that are unique and unexpected, it has brought the room together. My office truly makes a bold statement, even if it is a little girly ;)

I've listed all my decor below. If there's anything I missed, feel free to message me! Also, Dazzling Decor and I have teamed up to give one lucky winner the chance to win a rug of their choice, up to $1,000. Head over to my Facebook or Instagram for all the details on how to enter!

Friday's Thrifty Finds - Volume 5: What I'm Loving Right Now!

It's Friday and officially the first day of Fall. Although temperatures are still soaring here in Houston, that doesn't mean fall fashion is far from my mind! Below I've rounded up my current favorite things. From purses, to candles and shoes, it'll be hard for you not to fall in love with them, too!

You had me at hello! I mean, really, how gorgeous is this bag? The embroidery, bamboo handle, and gold accents are perfect, and the color combo is great for Fall. It also comes in two other colors, and I love the fact that it has a detachable strap, meaning it can be worn cross body, or used as a tote. It looks so similar to the embellished Gucci beauties we've been seeing everywhere, but for a fraction of the price. This bag will cost you only $41.99! Now I have your attention!

These Voluspa candles are to die for. I am a huge fan candles, and love having them on hand as an easy hostess gift. What is great about these candles is that they have unique scents and gorgeous packaging - they'll make the perfect addition to your interior decor. This set of three is only $25 (regularly $48).

I was introduced to the Lisi Lerch brand a little over a year ago, and since then, I have become a huge fan! What first caught my eye was their popular beaded tassel earrings - they're everywhere! Now, my jewelry collection has several of her pieces, and I most recently added these four to the bunch. All unique in their own right, they are the perfect mix of classic and trendy and are great for women of any age. These four pictured are all under $80

If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have seen a few shots of these Marc Fisher mules. These shoes are great for fall, and can be dressed up or down. I recently wore them with skinny jeans, a white tee and a silk scarf, and it looked perfect. The patent leather feels fresh, and the pointed toe is perfect for fall. They kind of remind me of witches shoes, which works wonderfully since October and Halloween are right the corner! (Note: These run a little small, so order a half size up).

I love everything Elaine Turner, and the  Marlaine bag, from her London Calling collection is stunning. From the embroidered strap (so pretty), to the sleek snake skin, this bag can take you anywhere. It is a great everyday bag, and just the right size for travel. It also has an exterior pocket, which provides easy access to your phone!

Have a fantastic weekend!

The Perfect Transitional Floral Print for Fall

Dress | Shoes | Chanel Purse from The Vintage Contessa (similar affordable version here) | Necklace | Bracelet | Earrings | Sunglasses

Happy Thursday, friends!

This will be my last post from New York Fashion Week. What I loved most about fashion week, is that it gave me the chance to wear so many fun outfits, and also run around all day dressed to the nines! I am a huge fan of getting dolled up, and will find any excuse to go somewhere I have to put on a party dress! I mean, that's what life is all about, right? haha;)

This dress from Trina Turk was my favorite outfit of the trip. The bell sleeves gave the simple silhouette an interesting and feminine edge, as did the exposed zipper in the back. The navy color with dark floral print and a pop of coral, is the perfect transition from summer into fall. When fall rolls around, floral prints are still one of my go-to's, just choose them in darker hues. I also like bolder, bigger floral prints because it doesn't look as childish, or like you're headed off to Coachella.

No look is complete without gorgeous accessories, and these earrings from Amazon were such a conversation starter! I don't know how well you can see the detail on them, but they are gold faces. They are really modern and artsy, and only $7.99!

Lastly, I wanted to say a big thank you to my friend's at Trina Turk, Zayver Designs and The Vintage Contessa for making me look polished and fashion forward during NYFW. New York wouldn't have been the same without you.

Did you catch all my NYFW outfits? If you missed them, you can see them all  here, here, and here!

My Top Five Favorite Things to Do in New York City

Dress (Under $100 and also comes in green. Wearing size XS - use code: 48689 for an additional 25% off) | Heels | Chanel Purse (from The Vintage Contessa; similar, budget friendly version here) | Earrings | Cuff | Sunglasses

Although my trip to NYC was all about work (and only 48 hours!!), I was still able to squeeze in a few of my favorite things while I was there. I definitely am not an expert, but after having been to New York more times than I can count, I do have a list of must-do's. Whether you're a local or a tourist, here are my top five things to do while you're in the Big Apple.

Central Park
Of course Central Park is beautiful, but it is also a great place to sit back and people watch. Yes, you're in NYC and don't want to waste a precious moment, but if I'd learned something about the city, you walk...A LOT. This is a great place to take a break, ride a bike, rent a rowboat (my favorite), and even visit the zoo. Once you're done, grab an "iconic" pretzel or hot dog. If you're looking for finer dining, The Boathouse is great, as is the new Tavern on the Green

Explore A New 'Hood
I love walking, and as I just mentioned, New York is a great walking city. Having moved from San Francisco, this is definitely something I miss (and we lack) in Houston.Whether you have a destination in mind or are just exploring, be sure to check out a new neighborhood. Of course we all know Times Square and SoHo, but some of the greatest neighborhoods are the ones you don't hear as much about. This also gives you the chance to get a 'local' flavor of the city, and not just the tourist attractions. That being said, bring comfy shoes! I can't stress this enough! My new favorite 'hoods: Chinatown, Hell's Kitchen and the East Village. Also, be sure to visit the High Line

Chelsea Market
A trip to Chelsea Market is a must, but be sure to come hungry! I first visited this "market" a few years ago when my BFF lived in the city, and it has remained one of my favorite things. A block long and a block wide, Chelsea Market has any type of food your heart could desire. From elaborate to simple, this is the perfect place to go when you're traveling with others, because there's something for everyone. Literally, you could spend your whole day there, eating from one end to the other!

See A Show On (or Off) Broadway
This is my #1 thing to do while I'm in New York! I have been a theater junkie since as long as I can remember (thanks mom and dad), and no trip to the Concrete Jungle would be complete without seeing at least one musical or play! For great ways to score discounted tickets on the top shows, click here.

The Museums
I also happen to be a self proclaimed museum junkie, as well! It's a great way to feel like you're traveling through time, to another country, to see things that are different from you personal taste, and even to have some time to self reflect. New York is known for having some of the best permanent and traveling exhibits in the world. Be sure not to miss (or revisit) The Met, The Guggenheim, The MoMA, the American Museum of Natural History, and The Whitney. Most recently I visited the September 11th Memorial & Museum, and although heartbreaking, it is well worth a visit and beautifully curated.

Have any must-see things to do in NYC? I would love to hear them! Until next time...

Friday's Thrifty Finds - Volume 4: NYFW Outfit Under $100

Dress - $98 (wearing size 2) | Jacket - $98 (wearing size S) | Handbag Lookalike - $30 | Tassel Earrings -$18.99 | Belt Lookalike - $14.99 | Shoes - $69.99 | Sunglasses - $10

I am so excited to finally be picking back up my Friday's Thrifty Finds posts! This is one I am especially eager to share with you. So often, people think they have to spend a lot of money to look good. I am here to tell you that there's nothing further from the truth.

Pulling together an inexpensive look is not only practical, but easy. When purchasing items on a budget, be sure to pay attention to the materials. Will the quality withstand multiple washes, does it hug too tightly or ride up when you walk, and one of the most important things is, is it see through (been there, done that!).

You feel good when you look good, and like I said, that doesn't mean breaking the bank. Some of my favorite, and most repeated outfits are from Forever 21H&MMacy's, and local boutiques. I also am a huge fan of Amazon. No, joke - you can find anything on Amazon! Everything I am wearing, besides my dress and jacket, came from Amazon. If you're a Prime member, ordering is simple, gets to you within two days, and they offer free returns.

I wore this outfit running around NYC last week, and it's all under $100!!! That's right, under $100. Note, the Chanel bag and Gucci belt are not under $100, but I found super similar styles for both that are under $30 (find them here and here).

Have a wonderful weekend, and thanks for stopping by! xo
