How To Wear Statement Jewelry

If you all haven't noticed by now, accessories are my thing. I absolutely love to accessorize from head-to-toe, and feel naked if I leave the house without all my final touches - they truly are the icing on the cake.

Accessories can also make or break an outfit. Everything has to jive, and look effortlessly put together. Whether your a minimalist, or the queen of over the top (never a bad thing!!), pulling off some of the of-the-moment trends can be difficult from time to time,

One of my all time favorite accessories, is statement jewelry. Bigger, bolder....better! Right now, I am all about searching high and low for great statement necklaces.

Case in point, this handmade beauty from local jewelry designer, Jessie Dugan. When I met Jessie a few months ago, it was love at first sight - I mean, do you see this necklace?! She had recently returned to Texas after living in NYC for several years, where she had designed handbags for Henri Bendel, and most recently was working as the designer of runway and special projects for Tory Burch. One of those 'special projects' being the Met Gala

Elaborate pieces, like Jessie's, are not as hard to wear as they look! Styling statement jewelry is actually fairly easy. Here are my go-to tips!

Statement necklaces can easily transform the simplest of outfits into something grand. For instance, I recently wore this same necklace with jeans, a white t-shirt, leather jacket and booties. It was the perfect edgy add on, to an otherwise casual outfit.

Be wary of pairing heavy prints with statement pieces, especially necklaces. When you have a busy print, there's already a lot going on, so be sure you pair your big pieces with solid outfits, or subtle patterns such as stripes, petite floral, or a muted plaid.

Remember, sometimes more IS better. For example, I paired my dress above with Jessie's bold necklace, and my gorgeous statement cuff from Galmer. I mean, everything is bigger in Texas, right? Don't shy away from going over the top, especially during the holiday season, or when attending any party or having a night out on the town.

Play up the color in your outfit by adding coordinating statement jewelry. Whether that's the main color of your outfit, or the accent color(s), it'll take your outfit to the next level.

Use statement necklaces to play up the neckline of your outfit. For example, if you want to call attention to that simple v-neck shirt, wear a statement necklace that falls right above the top of the shirt. Have a shirt or dress that has a neckline that is too low for you, cover it up with a big oversized necklace, like I did above.

Work in the corporate world? Try adding a statement necklace, like this one, over your white button up shirt for some ladylike appeal.

Play it cool - never wear too much statement jewelry. Focus on one focal piece and let it do the talking. You can wear a statement bracelet/cuff with a statement necklace, but a statement necklace and statement earrings, would be way too much.

Prefer to play it safe? Start with a great pair of tassel statement earnings like these, or a mixed metal statement cuff like the one here

Have a great weekend, and as always, stay stylish!
